How to design a battery fuel gauge


Design a battery fuel gauge is not complex indeed. For Li-ion and Lead-acid battery type,  “Voltage-Capacity-Curve Lookup” method can get a relative precise level  and  also low cost. But for LiFePo4, because their discharge voltage curve is very flat, so you can not only use   “Voltage-Capacity-Curve Lookup” to fulfill your precise target.  “Current-Accumulating”  should be considered.......

How to design an intelligent charger for your battery-pack


Different chemical battery type needs different charge method. Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) and  NiMH battery type requires  constant current charging method only. Lead-Acid (VRLA, AGM GEL) and Li-Ion battery type want constant current and constant voltage together, moreover Lithium-Ion/LiFePo4 battery types need more precise constant voltage than Lead-acid type ......

Battery and Chargers Essentials


For portable electronics and mobile electrical devices, we can select many different battery types, basically most of them can be classified into  three families: NiMH/Nicd battery,  Li-ion batteries (include LiFePo4 and Li-Polymer batteries), and Lead-Acid  families (such as AGM, VRLA). Different  chemical material battery type has different charging and discharging performance. Here you can find some basic technology  about these general batteries...........

Why my VRLA Lead-Acid batteries was thermal runaway (leakage even drum deformation)? How to solve it?

A: In our experience, the mostly reason which caused battery overcharged and thermal runaway is “charger is not terminated just in time when battery nearly full charged and still apply higher voltage (>=14.0V for 12V battery unit)” To solve this thermal runaway issue, two solutions are accepted: The 1st solution is put an external NCT temperature sensor on the surface of battery, when battery get hot charger will cut-off output. The 2nd solution is use a correct timer to limit the high voltage.......

How to select the correct charge current for my Li-ion or LiFePo4 battery pack?

A: Generally, for Li-ion and LiFePO4 battery type, recommended charge current should be limited between 0.5C and 0.1C, here "C" is the battery rating capacity. Higher charge current means shorter charge time, but also means more money; lower charge current means long charge time but can save your cost. For example, if your battery type is 4s 12.8V 10Ah LiFePO4 battery-pack, you can use 5.0A charge current (like our G100-12F4 charger), also you can choose 1.0A charge current.......
